Todd Akin greets peaceful constituents. With cops.

Eight cop cars. That's how many it took to quell the "riot" by 50 or so little old ladies and 50 others of assorted ages (and sexes) who tried to storm Representative Todd Akin's office in West St. Louis County Wednesday afternoon.

You can see from the photos how dangerous they are. The woman in the photo above probably has a .44 tucked in that bag.

This pic of Mary Clemons looks hazy because it was 100 degrees at the time. I think that's a heat haze you're seeing. So aside from the fact that we lacked any actual .44s, we were about melted from the heat and chanting "Where's Akin while we're bakin'?"

Since Akin refuses ever to respond to requests from Democratic constituents asking for a meeting or a phone call, much less a town hall, these folks called their own town hall a block from his office and invited him to attend.

We waited around.

He didn't show. Of course. So the crowd had the gall to approach his majesty's office and were told by the cops which little bright patch of sunlight they might occupy while they listened to a few speakers.

Why is it that peaceful people--and there were no weapons in this group more dangerous than a few rapier like wits--cannot even approach the office paid for by taxpayers without having the police--union workers that we taxpayers fund--sicced on them?

Maybe this disabled woman (3.00 / 1)
was the reason for all those cop cars. Looks dangerous, no?

What is he afraid of? (3.00 / 1)
When about a dozen people went to this same office a month or so ago, one of Akin's aides listened patiently to their logical reasons why Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid are not only necessary for our survival but good policy as well.

When about 50 people showed up at Akin's office in St. Charles, the staff blocked the mail slot with tape and put a note on the door saying they were all at a meeting.

So when 100 people showed up at the union hall, they must have really freaked out.  "Somebody call the cops, there are citizens heading this way !!"

To be continued.

"...he has worked assiduously to reduce wasteful government spending and eliminate needless and burdensome regulations on job creators."

Yeah, job creators in China.

I loved this comment from a reader called Kathy in St. Louis:

[Akin's] a Teabagger, a neocon, and a fundie who loves Jesus and shows it by hating his fellow man. He's never brought home the jobs, hides out from election to election, and is planning a run against Claire McCaskill for her senate seat. He has been regularly reelected to one of the safest House seats in Missouri....as red as a whore's lips.

I wonder if he plans to hide out during his entire campaign as well.

Whore's lips (0.00 / 0)
I really think we need better metaphors.  Whore's lips are useful; they can bring comfort to some.

"as red as a baby's spanked behind" seems better because people who vote for Akin are spanking themselves.

"as red as the fires in hell" works.  Self-explanatory.

Certainly we can do better.

Whore's lips do get at the fundamental bought and sold aspect of GOPism, though (0.00 / 0)
