1. Update.. Currently on the floor (as of 6:35pm CDT): An amendment to allow for concealed weapons on college campuses. Quick Denny, I have an idea of where you can hide during the roll call.

1b. The amendment passes by a vote of 106 to 41. Denny Hoskins was absent on the call of absentees, and they gave him a good 15 seconds to vote after calling his name. Word on the street is that the C in CPA does not stand for courage. Denny took a walk and avoided taking a stance on the topic.

2. Currently on the floor: The House considered an amendment to strip the cost of living adjustment from the minimum wage for tipped servers, with a $3.62 minimum wage.

Update: Amendment adopted. All Democrats against. Every Republican except one for. No word on if the House Republican caucus will up their tipping percentage if Jay Nixon accidentally signs this bill into law.

3. The House approved a constitutional amendment adjusting the Missouri plan. Yay dilution!. Also Tim Jones was present

4. 'Dear Speaker, please assign my bills to committee or stop beating around the bush. Sincerely, Mike Talboy' - But the Speaker is so dreamy, right media guys?

5. Also, Newt Gingrich showed up to Jeff City today. No word on if there is a spike in Luntzian talk from Republicans.

...Currently on the floor (as of 6:35pm CDT): An amendment to allow for concealed weapons on college campuses...

In the Warrensburg Daily Star Journal:

Guns at UCM?
Lawmaker has taken no position on measure filed in Jefferson City

Jack Miles
Editor

..."It's not really on our radar. I don't think it's going anywhere," Hoskins said.

He tells the local paper he hasn't taken a position and that it's not going to go anywhere. He must think everyone else just fell off the turnip truck. He's either disingenuous or clueless about the legislative process. Great.

The sad thing is, we'll all be surprised if the local paper even bothers to call him on it.

There better not be a chance ... (2.00 / 1)
that concealed carry on University Campuses could be legalized.  These people are crazier even than I thought -- and they run Missouri government.  What has to happen before people wake up!  I have no problem with gun ownership, but I have lots of problem with concealed carry laws; there are just too many crazy short-fuzed people out there who love guns and, so far, I don't find that many of them have any problem getting gun permits.

Jay has a veto stamp (2.00 / 1)
The vote on the campus conceal carry was over two-thirds of voting members, but not of members. So i'd imagine that sustaining a veto is possible.

Anyways, there's still the Senate, which is unexpectedly a better than the House at slowing down stuff, despite the 23/11 split.

Walking for his health (3.00 / 1)
First, the hiding spot for Denny made me choke on my Coca-Cola. Super funny!

Next, I'm disappointed that our Rep. doesn't take a stand on something that is obviously important to his constituents. This is an amendment that is directly linked to the University here in Warrensburg and if he's not going to represent us, who will? What frightens me is that it's not just about the univ. In this bill it states that concealed and carry would be allowed in public schools, daycares, and many more. As a public school teacher, it frightens me. I will be interested to see what Pearce does with this.

By the way, I love Talboy for being so straight forward. This is a guy who knows how to get stuff done. I wish we had him for our district.

"All you need is love....love is all you need."

I was a librarian in Detroit when concealed carry passed in MIchagan ... (0.00 / 0)
Fortunately, we were able to prohibit guns in government buildings so the library was saf(er) than the streets.  We had metal detectors and guards at every entry door, including those used by staff -- and still there were threatening incidents involving guns or other weapons.  Our security procedures and training allowed us to deal with these incidents effectively.  God only knows what the situation would have been if hidden guns had been randomly dispersed among patrons who felt moved to intervene.  I personally don't want to be a bystander when the the shoot-out at the OK corral takes place.

So I'm with you as far as feeling frightened by this type of stupidity.  Just stop and think about the type of hair-trigger, angry paranoid who thinks it's necessary to carry a concealed weapon into a public place and tell me it isn't a disaster waiting to happen?  And don't fool yourself that these people can't get gun permits.
